On 9 February 2023, the Senate referred the inquiry into impacts and management of feral horses in the Australian Alps to the Senate Environment and Communications References Committee for inquiry and report by 9 June 2023.

The committee requests an extension of time to report until 29 September 2023 to allow it to consider the evidence received and to conclude its deliberations.
