Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Amendment (Climate Trigger) Bill 2022

On 8 September 2022 the Senate referred the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Amendment (Climate Trigger) Bill 2022 [No. 2] to the Environment and Communications Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 28 February 2023.

The closing date for submissions is 13 October 2022.

On 7 February 2023, the committee was granted an extension of time for the report until 29 March 2023.

On 28 March 2023, the committee was granted an extension of time for the report until 30 June 2023.

On 16 June 2023, the committee was granted an extension of time for the report until 6 December 2023.

On 6 December 2023, the committee was granted an extension of time for the report until 7 February 2024.

About this inquiry:
The Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Amendment (Climate Trigger) Bill 2022 seeks to amend the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act) to introduce a climate trigger to contribute to Australia fulfilling its obligations under the Climate Change Conventions through thorough environmental assessment of emissions-intensive activities.
