National Broadband Network Companies Amendment (Commitment to Public Ownership) Bill 2024 [Provisions]

On 21 November 2024, the Senate referred the provisions of the National Broadband Network (Companies Amendment (Commitment to Public Ownership) Bill 2024 to the Environment and Communications Legislation Committee for report by 6 February 2025.
The closing date for submissions is 16 December 2024.

About this Inquiry:

The bill would amend the National Broadband Network Companies Act 2011 to recognise in legislation the Australian Government’s existing policy that NBN Co Limited (NBN Co), the company that operates the National Broadband Network (NBN), remains in public ownership.

The amendments proposed by the bill are not intended to change the operations of the NBN, or the governance of NBN Co. It would also not change the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s existing oversight of the NBN or NBN Co’s Special Access Undertaking which applies to NBN Co’s price and non-price terms.
