Access to private areas of Parliament House is controlled electronically to ensure only people with authorised access can enter. Access is enabled by an Australian Parliament House (APH) Access Card (Access Card).
Eligibility and suitability requirements to obtain a 'pass' (Access Card) are outlined in the Australian Parliament House (APH) Private Area Access Policy.

Applying for an APH Access Card
To apply for, or renew an Access Card, please:
- complete one of the forms below - ensure that it is signed by yourself and the applicable Authorised Officer*.
- email the completed application form to the Security Pass Office via securitypass@aph.gov.au.
The Security Pass Office will contact you once the application has been processed to book an appointment (this can take up to 8 weeks). Remember to bring photographic identification with you to your appointment.
Authorised Officers*
Authorised Officers (otherwise known as Sponsors) can approve the issue of an Access Card enabling access to the private areas of Parliament House:
- The Authorised Officer or sponsor role is determined by the APH Private Area Access Policy.
- These roles can be nominated to persons who are at the Executive level 2 or higher (e.g. Chief of Staff, Director) by the primary Authorised Officer or Sponsor.
- These roles are audited regularly, and the primary Authorised Officer or Sponsor will be responsible for validation.

Pass Office opening hours
The Pass Office is open Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 4:50 pm (excluding public holidays).

The Pass Office is located on Ground Floor in the Marble Foyer. It is near the main front pass issue desk and adjacent to the main front public entrance.
