Climate Change Bill 2022 and the Climate Change (Consequential Amendments) Bill 2022

On 28 July 2022 the Senate referred the Climate Change Bill 2022 and the Climate Change (Consequential Amendments) Bill 2022 to the Environment and Communications Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 31 August 2022. 

The submission closing date was 10 August 2022. 

The committee tabled the report on 31 August 2022.

About this inquiry

The bills would codify Australia’s 2030 and 2050 greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets, provide for an annual statement in relation to the targets, embed the targets in the objectives and functions of relevant Commonwealth agencies, and empower the Climate Change Authority to provide advice to the Minister in relation to future targets.

The terms of reference are the provisions of the bills.
