On 9 May 2023, the Senate referred the particulars of proposed expenditure and particulars of certain proposed expenditure in respect of the year ending on 30 June 2024 for the Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water portfolio, and the Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts portfolio to the Senate Environment and Communications Legislation Committee for examination and report by 27 June 2023.

The committee requests an extension of time to report until 17 July 2023 to allow time to conclude its deliberations.
