On 29 October 2009 the Senate referred the Energy Efficient Homes Package (ceiling insulation) to the Environment, Communications and the Arts References Committee for inquiry and report by 30 March 2010.
On 16 March 2010 the Senate extended the reporting date to 6 May 2010.
The committee held hearings on 17 February, 22 February, 26 February, 17 March and 25 March 2010.
During or shortly after hearings the committee put 133 questions on notice to the Department of Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts and the Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency. As at 4 May 2010, 47 questions remain unanswered.
Due to the need to obtain and thoroughly consider the responses to its questions and in order to fully inform the deliberations on its report, the committee intends to table its final report by 22 June 2010.
