Inquiry into Australia's national parks, conservation reserves and marine protected areas

Terms of Reference

The Senate has referred the following matter to the Committee for inquiry and report by 30 November 2006:

The funding and resources available to meet the objectives of Australia's national parks, other conservation reserves and marine protected areas, with particular reference to:

  1. the values and objectives of Australia's national parks, other conservation reserves and marine protected areas;
  2. whether governments are providing sufficient resources to meet those objectives and their management requirements;
  3. any threats to the objectives and management of our national parks, other conservation reserves and marine protected areas;
  4. the responsibilities of governments with regard to the creation and management of national parks, other conservation reserves and marine protected areas, with particular reference to long-term plans; and
  5. the record of governments with regard to the creation and management of national parks, other conservation reserves and marine protected areas.

On 18 October 2006 the Senate granted an extension of time to report until 28 February 2007.

On 27 February 2007 the Senate granted a further extension of time to report until 29 March 2007.

On 29 March 2007 the Senate granted a further extension of time to report until 12 April 2007.

The Committee invites written submissions from interested individuals and organisations, preferably in electronic form sent by email, to ecita.sen@aph.gov.au. The email must include full postal address and contact details.

Alternatively, submissions may be sent to The Secretary, Senate Environment, Communications Information Technology and the Arts References Committee Parliament House, CANBERRA ACT 2600, or faxed to 02 6277 5818.

Submissions must be received by no later than Wednesday, 1 March 2006. However, late submissions are being accepted. Please contact the Secretariat if you wish to make a late submission.

Submissions become committee documents and are made public only after a decision by the Committee. Persons making submissions must not release them without the approval of the Committee. Submissions are covered by parliamentary privilege but the unauthorised release of them is not.
