Inquiry into Australia's Indigenous visual arts and craft sector
Terms of Reference
The Senate has referred the following matter to the Committee for
inquiry and report by the first sitting day of 2007:
Australia's Indigenous visual arts and craft sector, with particular reference to:
- the current size and scale of Australia's Indigenous visual arts
and craft sector;
- the economic, social and cultural benefits of the sector;
- the overall financial, cultural and artistic sustainability of the
sector;
- the current and likely future priority infrastructure needs of the
sector;
- opportunities for strategies and mechanisms that the sector could
adopt to improve its practices, capacity and sustainability, including to
deal with unscrupulous or unethical conduct;
- opportunities for existing government support programs for Indigenous
visual arts and crafts to be more effectively targeted to improve the
sector's capacity and future sustainability; and
- future opportunities for further growth of Australia's Indigenous
visual arts and craft sector, including through further developing
international markets.
On 18 October 2006 the Senate granted an
extension of time to report until 22 March 2007.
On 27 February 2007 the Senate granted a further extension of time
to report until 12 June 2007.
On 12 June 2007 the Senate granted a further extension of
time to report until 21 June 2007.
The Committee invites written submissions from interested individuals and organisations, preferably in electronic form sent by email, to ecita.sen@aph.gov.au. The email must include full postal address and contact details.
Submissions were originally due by
Friday, 27 October 2006.
However, due to the extension of time to report until 22
March 2007, the Committee has agreed to an extension of time to provide
submissions until 27 November 2006.

Submissions become committee documents and are made public only after a decision by the Committee. Persons making submissions must not release them without the approval of the Committee. Submissions are covered by parliamentary privilege but the unauthorised release of them is not.
