Information about the Inquiry
The Senate has referred
a suite of media
reform bills: the Broadcasting Services Amendment (Media Ownership)
Bill 2006); the Broadcasting Legislation Amendment (Digital Television)
Bill 2006; the Television Licence Fees Amendment Bill 2006 and the
provisions of the Communications Legislation Amendment (Enforcement
Powers) Bill 2006 and a discussion paper by the minister on the two
channels of spectrum for new digital services to the Committee for inquiry and report by
5 October 2006. On 14 September 2006 the Senate granted an extension of
time to report until 6 October 2006.
The Committee invites written submissions from interested individuals and organisations preferably in electronic form sent by email to ecita.sen@aph.gov.au. The email must include full postal address and contact details.
Alternatively, submissions may be sent to The Secretary, Senate Environment, Communications Information Technology and the Arts Legislation Committee, PO Box 6100, Parliament House, CANBERRA ACT 2600, or faxed to 02 6277 5818.
Submissions must be received by no later than Monday, 25
September 2006, but you are encouraged to send your submission as
soon as possible.

Notes on preparing submissions
Submissions become committee documents and are made public only after a decision by the Committee. Persons making submissions must not release them without the approval of the Committee. Submissions are covered by parliamentary privilege but the unauthorised release of them is not.
Public hearings will be held at
Parliament House Canberra on Thursday, 28 and Friday 29 September 2006.
