Information about the Inquiry

On 21 March 2013 the Senate jointly referred the Marriage (Celebrant Registration Charge) Bill 2013 and the Marriage Amendment (Celebrant Administration and Fees) Bill 2013 for inquiry and report.

Both bills seek to implement a 2011-12 Budget measure, to introduce cost recovery for Commonwealth-registered marriage celebrants from 1 July 2013. The Marriage Amendment (Celebrant Administration and Fees) Bill 2013  also makes minor amendments to the administration of the Marriage Celebrants Program.

Please note that the terms of reference for this inquiry are the provisions of the bills. The committee will not be focussing on broader issues which fall outside the scope of these bills.

Submissions should be received by 26 April 2013. The reporting date is 18 June 2013.
