On 23 August 2018, the Senate referred the allegations concerning the inappropriate exercise of ministerial powers, with respect to the visa status of au pairs, and related matters to the Legal and Constitutional Affairs References Committee for inquiry and report by 11 September 2018. On 11 September 2018 the Senate extended the committee's reporting date to 19 September 2018.

The deadline for submissions to this inquiry is 31 August 2018.
