Combating the Financing of People Smuggling and Other Measures Bill 2011
Information about the Inquiry
On 03 March 2011 the Senate referred the Combating the Financing of People Smuggling and Other Measures Bill 2011 for inquiry and report.
The Bill seeks to amend the:
- Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006 to extend the regulatory regime for remittance dealers and providers of remittance networks and expand the agencies with which Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC) can share financial intelligence;
- Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006 and Privacy Act 1988 to enable reporting entities to use credit reporting data to verify the identity of their customers; and
- Financial Transaction Reports Act 1988 to enable the Chief Executive Officer of AUSTRAC to exempt a person from provisions of the Act.
Submissions should be received by 10 March 2011. The reporting date is 21 March 2011.
