Inquiry into Personal Property Securities Bill 2009 [Provisions]

Information about the Inquiry

On 25 June 2009 the Senate referred the provisions of the Personal Property Securities Bill 2009 for inquiry and report.

The bill seeks to reform the personal property securities (PPS) system, is a significant micro-economic reform and a key aspect of the Government's deregulation agenda. The reform would involve the creation of a single piece of Commonwealth legislation underpinned by a referral of legislative power from the States to regulate PPS interests. The change would be supported by the creation of a single, national electronic register of PPS interests.

Submissions should be received by 31 July 2009. The committee intends to present its report on this bill on 17 August 2009.
