Inquiry into the provisions of the National Security Information
Legislation Amendment Bill 2005
Information about the inquiry
On 16 March 2005, the Senate referred the above Bill to the Senate
Legal and Constitutional Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by
11 May 2005.
The Bill seeks to amend the National Security Information (Criminal
Proceedings) Act 2004. That Act aims to prevent the disclosure of
information in federal criminal proceedings where the disclosure is likely
to prejudice national security. The Bill will extend the operation of
the Act to include certain civil proceedings.
Lodging Submissions
Submissions are
called for by 1 April 2005. Submissions become Committee
documents and are only made public after a decision by the Committee. Unauthorised release of submissions is not covered by parliamentary privilege.
