On 14 June 2023, the Senate referred an inquiry into residential electrification to the Senate Economics References Committee for inquiry and report by the last sitting day of 2024.

On 28 November 2024, the Senate agreed to extend the reporting date to 31 January 2025.

On 4 February 2025, the Senate agreed to extend the reporting of the inquiry to 31 July 2025.
