Please note, the current government committee members were not on the
committee at the time when the inquiry's hearings were held. This was due to
the inquiry being initiated in the last parliament and the subsequent
proroguing of parliament and inquiry lapse.

With that in mind, Government members note the committee report and
recommendations, and would make the following additional comments.

2.58 The committee notes the funding commitments that have
already been made by the Australian Government and the South Australian
Government. As a first step, this funding will need to be made available to
assist with the sale process.

by the Australian Government and the South Australian Government. It is
important this funding be used to assist in attracting investment for the long
term sustainable operation of the Whyalla steelworks.
Recommendation 1
Current recommendation
2.63 The committee notes commitments made by the
Australian and South Australian Governments to secure the sale of Arrium and
recommends that this funding be deployed as a matter of urgency to assist with
the sale process, in accordance with advice from the company administrators.

steelworks and recommends that this funding be used to assist in
attracting investments for the long-term sustainable operations of the Whyalla
steelworks.

2.64 The committee notes that further government support may
be required to secure the sale of Arrium, depending on the nature of the final
offers, and recommends that governments work with bidders and the
administrators to ensure that additional support is provided, as appropriate,
to secure the sale of the company and the future of the Whyalla steelworks.
