Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage Amendment (National Regulator) Bill 2011 and related bills
Information about the Inquiry
On 25 May 2011 the Senate jointly referred the Offshore Petroleum (Royalty) Amendment Bill 2011 and the Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage (Registration Fees) Amendment Bill 2011 and the Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage Amendment (National Regulator) Bill 2011 and the Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage Regulatory Levies Legislation Amendment (2011 Measures No. 2) Bill 2011 and the Offshore Resources Legislation Amendment (Personal Property Securities) Bill 2011 for inquiry and report.
Pursuant to a resolution of the Senate on 12 May 2011 regarding the consideration of time critical bills, the provisions of the following bills have been referred to the Senate Economics Legislation Committee for inquiry and report:
· Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage Amendment (National Regulator) Bill 2011,
· Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage (Registration Fees) Amendment Bill 2011,
· Offshore Petroleum (Royalty) Amendment Bill 2011,
· Offshore Resources Legislation Amendment (Personal Property Securities) Bill 2011, and
· Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage Regulatory Levies Legislation Amendment (2011 Measures No. 2) Bill 2011.
The bills relate to the administration and regulation of petroleum and greenhouse gas storage operations in Commonwealth waters, and replace the state and Northern Territory based Designated Authorities with the National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority (which will replace the National Offshore Petroleum Safety Authority and have extended functions) and the National Offshore Petroleum Titles Administrator (located within the Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism).
Submissions should be received by 03 June 2011. The reporting date is 16 June 2011.
The Committee is seeking written submissions from interested individuals and organisations preferably in electronic form submitted online or sent by email to economics.sen@aph.gov.au as an attached Adobe PDF or MS Word format document. The email must include full postal address and contact details.
