Constitutional Corporations (Farm Gate to Plate) Bill 2011
Information about the Inquiry
On 15 September 2011 the Senate referred the Constitutional Corporations (Farm Gate to Plate) Bill 2011 for inquiry and report.
The Bill will require grocery retailers to display the farm gate price of fresh fruit and vegetables next to the retail price and on its website. The object of the Bill is to “enable consumers to understand the pricing practices of grocery retailersâ€. It provides for penalties to be imposed on retailers who breach its provisions. The Bill does not amend any existing legislation.
Submissions should be received by 31 October 2011. The reporting date is 24 November 2011.
The Committee is seeking written submissions from interested individuals and organisations preferably in electronic form submitted online or sent by email to economics.sen@aph.gov.au as an attached Adobe PDF or MS Word format document. The email must include full postal address and contact details.
