On 23 June 2011, during the debate on the second reading of the Tax Laws Amendment (2011 Measures No. 5) Bill 2011, the Senate passed the following motion:
'That this bill be now read a second time and the Economics References Committee undertake a review of the operation of the amendments made by Part 1 of Schedule 5 of the bill 12 months after the commencement of that Part and report to the Senate on that review no later than 12 months after commencing the review'.
