On 19 June 2018, the Senate referred an inquiry into the exploitation  of  general  and  specialist  cleaners  working  in retail  chains  for contracting or subcontracting cleaning companies to the Education and Employment References Committee for report by 17 September 2018.

The closing date for submissions is 12 July 2018.

On 25 June 2018 the Senate granted an extension of time for reporting until 15 October 2018. 

On 13 September the Senate granted an extension of time for reporting until 13 November 2018.
