Wheat Marketing Amendment Bill 2002
On 5 February 2003, the Senate referred the above bill to the
Senate Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport Legislation Committee for
inquiry and report by the 20 March 2003. (This date has now been extended to
the 14 May 2003)
The main purpose of the Bill is to enable revenue to be raised for the
continuing operation of the single desk exporter of the Australian wheat
crop, the Wheat Export Authority (WEA). The revenue will be raised by
way of a charge levied on all exports of wheat, commencing during the first
half of 2003.
