Dear Mr President

On 15 June 2017, the Senate referred the provisions of the National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Quality and Safeguards Commission and Other Measures) Bill 2017 (Bill) to the Senate Community Affairs Legislation Committee (Committee) for inquiry and report. Submissions were sought by 28 July 2017 and the committee was due to report on 5 September 2017.

The Committee has received 47 submissions and held two public hearings in Canberra on 4 and 5 September 2017.

On 17 August 2017, the Senate granted an extension of time for reporting until 13 September 2017. On 13 September 2017, the Senate granted an extension of time for reporting until 13 October 2017.

The Committee intends to seek a further extension to the reporting date to 8 November 2017 to enable it to consider further evidence received and conclude its deliberations.
