Dear Mr President
On 30 November 2017, the Senate referred the provisions of both the Commonwealth Redress Scheme for Institutional Child Sexual Abuse Bill 2017 and Commonwealth Redress Scheme for Institutional Child Sexual Abuse (Consequential Amendments) Bill 2017 to the Senate Community Affairs Legislation Committee (Committee) for inquiry and report. Submissions were sought by 2 February 2018 and the committee was due to report on 13 March 2018.
The Committee has received 87 submissions and held two public hearings, one in Canberra on 16 February 2018 and one in Melbourne on 6 March 2018.
The Committee intends to seek an extension to the reporting date to 28 March 2018 to enable it to consider further evidence received and conclude its deliberations.
