On Wednesday, 3 July 2024, following a referral from the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Senator the Hon Penny Wong, the Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade resolved to have the Human Rights Subcommittee conduct an inquiry into Australia's efforts to advocate for the worldwide abolition of the death penalty.
The Committee invites submissions to the inquiry by Friday, 2 August 2024.
Submitters are requested to carefully consider the material provided in submissions. The Subcommittee will not accept material which includes graphic images of alleged human rights abuses as evidence to the inquiry.
