Information about the Inquiry

Schedule 2 of the Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs and Other Legislation Amendment (Budget and Other Measures) Bill 2010 (Changes to Disability Support Pension)

Information about the Inquiry

On 28 October 2010 the Senate referred the following matter to the Senate Community Affairs Committee for inquiry and report.

The Community Affairs committee will examine Schedule 2  of the bill. This schedule will introduce an ongoing requirement for residence in Australia for a disability support pension. The amendments will close a loophole that has allowed continued payment of disability support pension to people who live permanently overseas but return to Australia every 13 weeks in order to retain their pension. The 13-week portability period is designed to allow disability support pensioners who reside permanently in Australia sufficient time to deal with personal matters that may arise from time to time overseas.

Submissions should be received by 05 November 2010. The reporting date is 22 November 2010.

The Committee is seeking written submissions from interested individuals and organisations preferably in electronic form submitted online or sent by email to community.affairs.sen@aph.gov.au as an attached Adobe PDF or MS Word format document. The email must include full postal address and contact details.

Alternatively, written submissions may be sent to:
