On 8 December 2005 the
Senate referred the above Private Members' Bill to the Committee for
inquiry and report by 8 February 2006.
The purpose of the Bill
is to remove responsibility for approval for RU486 from the Minister for
Health and Ageing and to provide responsibility for approval of RU486 to
the Therapeutic Goods Administration.

Memorandum, second reading speech and extracts from the Therapeutic
Goods Act 1989 that are proposed to be repealed by the Therapeutic
Goods Amendment (Repeal of Ministerial responsibility for approval of
RU486) Bill 2005 may be accessed under legislation and documentation

The Committee invites written submissions
relating to the Bill which should be lodged by Monday, 16 January 2006.
