In recommending the reference of the Bill to the Committee, the Selection of Bills Committee
provided the following issues for consideration:
- to examine the provisions of the Bill relating to increases in the private health insurance
rebate to ascertain if the Bill will increase the affordability of private health insurance for all
older Australians, regardless of whether they currently hold private health insurance or not,
and to examine if there are any inequity implications relating to the affordability of private
health insurance for other Australians arising from the changes proposed in the Bill.
The Committee invites written submissions on the Bill. The submission should be lodged with
the Committee by Tuesday, 7 December 2004. The Committee prefers to receive submissions
electronically as an attached document - email: community.affairs.sen@aph.gov.au – otherwise
