The Senate, on the recommendation of the Selection of Bills Committee, has referred the above Bill to the Committee for inquiry and report by 17 August 2006.

The Bill, second reading speech and other information relating to the inquiry may be accessed on this website via the link to 'legislation and documentation relating to the Bills'.

The reason for referral of the Bill provided in the Selection of Bills proposal is to examine the adequacy of the legislation in improving regulation of pregnancy counselling, and ensure the counselling provided by Government-funded pregnancy counselling services is objective, non-directive, and includes information on all three pregnancy options.

The Committee invites written submissions addressing issues which are of relevance to your organisation. Submissions relating to the Bill should be lodged by Friday, 16 June 2006. The Committee prefers to receive submissions electronically as an attached document - email: community.affairs.sen@aph.gov.au – otherwise by fax (number 02 6277 5829).
