On 8 December 2004 the Senate, on the
recommendation of the Selection of Bills Committee, has referred the
provisions of the above Bill to the Senate Community Affairs Legislation
Committee.
The Bill, Explanatory Memoranda and second
reading speech may be accessed on the Internet at

In recommending the reference of the Bill
to the Committee, the Selection of Bills Committee provided the following
issues for consideration:
the impact on private health insurance premiums and patient
choice
the need for provisions to ensure that patients are informed
of potential gap costs.
The
Committee invites written submissions on the Bill. The submission should
be lodged with the Committee by Friday, 21 January 2005. The Committee
prefers to receive submissions electronically as an attached document -

The Committee intends
to hold a public hearing on the Bill on Monday, 7 February 2005.
