Preface
The Labor and Democrat members of the Committee agree that the Government's
tax package Tax Reform: not a new tax, a new tax system (the ANTS
package) will have a negative effect on the health, charity, housing and
community services sectors, and will reduce the standard of living of
low income Australians.
The evidence presented to this Committee and summarised in Chapters 2
to 9 of the Committee's report is compelling and cannot afford to be ignored
by the Government. The evidence and conclusions in these chapters are
endorsed by both the Labor and Democrat members.
The Overview and Recommendation drawn in the Committee's report represent
the views of the Labor Senators and do not reflect the views of the Democrats.
The Democrats' recommendations are contained in the Supplementary Report
of Senator Bartlett.
