Education and Training Limited 2006-2007
1.27
The General Practice Education and Training (GPET) strategic plan 2006-07
states that their mission is:
To foster and implement regionally-provided, high-quality,
innovative, responsive and coordinated general practice education and training,
which meets the needs of communities, individuals, registrars and general
practitioners across Australia (p.6).
1.28
GPET reports that for the first time 600 training places were filled,
rural pathway applications continued to increase as a proportion of applicants,
and more than 2,000 registrars were in the Australian General Practice Training
(AGPT) program. New educational and workforce initiatives, including the Rural
Outreach Vocational Education (ROVE) program were introduced (p.4).
1.29
GPET also enhanced its capacity to project workforce and training
capacity needs through the development of a sophisticated workforce model and
prototype performance management tool. This will enable GPET to monitor the AGPT
program's performance and to set program targets across a range of quality,
educational and financial dimensions (p.4).
1.30
The report contains a comprehensive review of GPET's initiatives and
outcomes under the broad headings of the GP workforce, community benefits,
education and training, leadership, stakeholders, and governance and business capability
(pp.7-13).
