The Joint Committee of Public Accounts and Audit resolved on Thursday 11 February 2016 to investigate Defence Sustainment spending.

As a parallel investigation into the Committee's Review of ANAO Report No.16 (2015–16), 2014-15 Major Projects Report, the JCPAA will be further examining the additional funding expended on Defence platforms for reasons other than acquisition. These expenditures can include maintenance, weapon and equipment upgrades and infrastructure support, as well as other necessary purchases. Other relevant issues are also to be considered.
