Inquiry into the citrus industry in Australia

INTERIM REPORT

Dear Mr President

A review of the citrus industry in Australia was referred to the Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport Reference Committee by the Senate on 28 February 2013, for inquiry and report by 31 July 2013.

The Committee has received 43 submissions, and has held a public hearing in Griffith and Mildura on 3 July and 4 July 2013, respectively. The Committee tabled an Interim Report on 31 July 2013, requesting a final reporting date of 30 September 2013, on the basis that it required more time to fully consider the evidence and to conclude its deliberations.

Due to the intervening election, the Committee has been unable to further progress its work, and seeks a further extension until 30 March 2014, pending the Senate's re-referral of the reference in the new Parliament.
