2.2        The committee has decided to examine this instrument as part of its examinations of the Stronger Futures package of legislation.

Purpose of the bill

2.3        This determination provides that the NT Alcohol and Drugs Tribunal is a recognised State/Territory authority for the purposes of Part 3B of the Social Security (Administration) Act 1999. Part 3B of the Act establishes the income management regime.

2.4        The tribunal can review banning and treatment (BAT) notices issued by NT police and issue banning alcohol and drugs treatment (BADT) orders. In making a BADT order the tribunal may make an order referring people for income management.
