Joint Standing Committee on Treaties
Treaty Scrutiny: A Ten Year Review
The Joint Standing Committee on Treaties was established almost ten years ago as part of wide-ranging reforms to the treaty-making process. Since then the Committee has reviewed over 350 treaties and tabled its conclusions and recommendations in 72 reports.
To mark its tenth anniversary the Committee held a seminar at Parliament House on Friday 31 March 2006. The seminar provided an opportunity to consider the effectiveness of the Committee in its scrutiny role.
