Following a referral from the Minister for Health and Aged Care, the Hon Mark Butler MP, on 22 August 2024 the House Standing Committee on Health, Aged Care and Sport commenced an inquiry into the health impacts of alcohol and other drugs in Australia.
The Committee accepted the Minister's request to undertake a health-focused review of alcohol and other drugs policy, treatment services, community programs, and workforce, to determine whether the current settings appropriately support the prevention, reduction and recovery of alcohol and other drugs-related health harms on individuals, families and communities.
The Committee is aiming to make recommendations, as necessary, to improve coordination and cooperation of the health sector and other relevant sectors to support the implementation of effective, equitable and innovative policy responses.
The Committee would be grateful to receive written submissions addressing the terms of reference by Monday, 30 September 2024, but will accept submissions until Tuesday, 31 December 2024. Information that may assist in preparing a submission to the Committee can be viewed here.
Please note that contributions to the inquiry are not automatically published on the website. Each contribution is processed by the Secretariat before being made available on the 'Submissions' web page.
