Printed editions of rulings of the President of the Senate

On 23 November 1910, the Standing Orders Committee resolved that rulings of the President of the Senate were to be consolidated and bound in separate volumes, with an index provided for each volume.

Reports of the President to the Standing Orders Committee

On 9 March 1904 a document entitled Remarks and Suggestions on the Standing Orders¹ was tabled by the President, in which he submitted for the consideration of the Senate:

That at the commencement of each session the President should lay a paper on the Table formulating and tabulating all the decisions arrived at during the last session, giving reasons (if it should be necessary to do so) why, in his opinion, any of his own decisions were incorrect, or any of the decisions of the Senate, would lead to inconvenient results.

The document was referred to the Standing Orders Committee which agreed to the President’s suggestions in its first report of 1904,² adopted by the Senate on 18 May 1904. Subsequent reports were compiled until 1921.

1 No record can be found of this report either being tabled in the Senate or submitted to the Standing Orders Committee. However, at a meeting of the Committee on 4 October 1922, decisions of the President during the sessions of 1914-15-16-17, 1917-18-19 and 1920-21 were submitted and ordered to be printed and circulated. At this time, only an unofficial copy of the decisions during 1920-21 has been located.
