The finished build of Parliament House

Patrick Bingham-Hall (born 1958), Untitled, 1988, Art/Craft Program, Parliament House Art Collection.

In 1983, the Parliament House Construction Authority (PHCA), the agency responsible for the design and construction of Parliament House, invited 24 artists to make submissions to be considered to produce a photographic record of construction between 1984 and 1986. The PHCA commissioned all 24 artists due to the high quality of entries. The project was extended in 1988 with the engagement of four additional artists, Patrick Bingham-Hall, Max Dupain, David Moore and Michael Nicholson, who were leaders in the field of architectural photography. Their brief was to document the completion, opening and occupancy of the building. Their work resulted in a collection of photographs of the finished building that show unique aspects and details of the vision of the building’s architects, Mitchell/Giurgola & Thorp.
