COVID-19 alert for Australian Parliament House

Thursday, 16 December 2021 in COVID-19

ACT Health has advised the Presiding Officers that a Canberra-based staff member of a parliamentarian has tested positive to COVID-19.

The case is being investigated by ACT Health, which is being assisted by the Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) and the Department of the House of Representatives.

The Presiding Officers have been briefed by ACT Health and Commonwealth Health authorities.

ACT Health is working to identify possible close contacts and exposure locations at Parliament House, and elsewhere in the ACT. DPS is taking advice from ACT Health on areas of the building that may require additional cleaning as a result of this positive case.

Parliament House will remain open.  Further communications will be issued should building settings be required to change.

In the meantime, if you have not been advised that you are a close contact, no action is required at this time. Please be vigilant for any COVID-19 symptoms and get tested, even if only mild symptoms appear.

DPS will notify building occupants of any action deemed necessary by ACT Health and you are encouraged to monitor ACT exposure locations
