Truth and Justice Commission Bill 2024

On 4 July 2024 the Senate referred the Truth and Justice Commission Bill 2024 to the Joint Standing Committee on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs for inquiry and report by 11 February 2025.

The Bill is intended to establish a Commission to inquire into and make recommendations to Parliament on particular matters relating to historic and ongoing injustices against First Peoples in Australia and the impacts of these injustices on First Peoples.

Making a submission

The Committee invites written submissions addressing any or all aspects of the Bill by Friday, 6 September 2024.

Submissions to the inquiry must be prepared solely for this purpose and should not be published prior to being accepted by the Committee.

Prospective submitters should note that the Committee does not intend to accept submissions that do not specifically address the provisions of the Bill.
