Privacy

The Parliament of Australia Web Site has a privacy policy. Any information you submit through a form (such as an e-petition) is not retained on the public web server and will not be used for purposes other than that for which it was provided.

Creating a petition

When you create an e-petition we ask for your name, address, telephone number and email address. This information is necessary under the petition requirements and also helps us to contact you.

Your name will be published online with your petition, but not your address, telephone number or email address. Your full name and address will be included in the final petition presented to the House of Representatives.

Your email address is used to contact you about your petition and to make sure you are a real person (and not a bot). We will not use your email address for any other purpose, and will not disclose it without your consent.

Signing a petition

When you sign a petition, we ask for your name and a verifiable email address. We will not publish your information online, but your name will be included in the final petition presented to the House of Representatives.

Your email address will be used to verify your intent to sign a petition. We also use your email address to make sure you haven’t signed the petition already, and that you’re a real person (and not a bot). We will not use your email address for any other purpose, and will not disclose it without your consent.

Disclaimer

There is no obligation on the part of any Member of Parliament to present a petition. Neither the House of Representatives nor any Member of Parliament presenting a petition endorses the views or information contained in any petition listed on this website. Moreover, they do not make any representations about, or assume any liability for any of the information set out in any petition. No petition posted on this website is protected by parliamentary privilege until presented by a Member of Parliament to the House of Representatives.
