Chapter 2.5
Tobacco industry
2.72 The tobacco products industry is among Australia's most important
value-adding industries. The tobacco industry contributed $3.4 billion
to the national gross domestic product (GDP) for the financial year ended
June 1993. This contribution to Australia's GDP is larger than that of
cereal grains; meat products; meat cattle; milk cattle and pigs;
bread, cakes and biscuits; and milk products. [83]
