Defence Amendment (Parliamentary Approval of Overseas Service) Bill 2008 [No. 2]
Information about the Inquiry
On 20 August 2009 the Senate referred the Defence Amendment (Parliamentary Approval of Overseas Service) Bill 2008 [No. 2] for inquiry and report.
According to the explanatory memorandum, the purpose of the bill is to ensure that, as far as is constitutionally and practically possible, Australian Defence Force personnel do not serve overseas in warlike actions without the approval of both Houses of the Parliament.
Submissions should be received by 16 October 2009. The reporting date is 19 November 2009. The Senate granted an extension of time for reporting until 25 February 2010.
The Committee is seeking written submissions from interested individuals and organisations preferably in electronic form submitted online or sent by email to fadt.sen@aph.gov.au as an attached Adobe PDF or MS Word format document. The email must include full postal address and contact details.
