On 20 June 2017 the House of Representatives agreed to a Senate resolution that a joint select committee on oversight of the implementation of redress related recommendations of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse be established following the tabling of the final report of the Royal Commission.

The Royal Commission delivered its final report on 15 December 2017. Information on the Royal Commission is available here.

The committee is inquiring into:

1. the Australian Government policy, program and legal response to the redress related recommendations of the Royal Commission, including the establishment and operation of the Commonwealth Redress Scheme and ongoing support of survivors; and
2. any matter in relation to the Royal Commission's redress related recommendations referred to the committee by a resolution of either House of the Parliament.

The committee is due to table its final report by 2 April 2019.

The committee was due to table its final report by the final sitting day in November 2018. The reporting date was then extended to the second last sitting day in March 2019, following agreement from the Senate (on 18 October 2018) and the House of Representatives (on 22 October 2018). The reporting date was then extended again, to 2 April 2019, following agreement from the Senate (on 14 February 2019) and the House of Representatives (on 18 February 2019).

Participating in the inquiry

The committee is continuing to accepting submissions. The submission deadline was 17 August 2018, although the committee will continue to consider and accept submissions after this date.

Please note that while the committee welcomes all written submissions and other evidence, the committee is not able to investigate or make findings in relation to individual cases of sexual abuse. The committee's inquiry will focus on the redress related recommendations of the Royal Commission and related matters.
