Review of the listing of Jabhat al-Nusra and the re-listing of six terrorist organisations

The Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security resolved to inquire into and report on the Review of the listing of Jabhat al-Nusra and the re-listing of six terrorist organisations:

  • Abu Sayyaf Group
  • Al-Qa'ida
  • Al-Qa'ida in Iraq
  • Al-Qa'ida in the Lands of the Islamic Maghreb
  • Jamiat ul-Ansar
  • Jemaah Islamiyah

Section 102.1A of the Criminal Code Act 1995 provides that the Committee may review a regulation which lists an organisation as a terrorist organisation and report its comments and recommendations to each House of the Parliament before the end of the applicable disallowance period for the House. The disallowance period is 15 sitting days from the day the regulation is tabled.

The Committee tabled its report on 11 February 2014.
