Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Amendment (Alpine Grazing) Bill 2014

1.1        The Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Amendment (Alpine Grazing) Bill 2014 (the bill) seeks to amend the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 to deem that the minister has:

  • received from the Victorian government a referral of its proposal to trial cattle grazing in the Alpine National Park; and
  • decided that the trial of alpine grazing is unacceptable.

1.2        The bill is accompanied by a statement of compatibility which concludes that the bill 'is compatible with human rights as it does not raise any human rights issues.'[1]

1.3                  The committee considers that the bill does not appear to give rise to human rights concerns.
