Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (Consequential and Transitional) Bill 2012

Introduced into the House of Representatives on 23 August 2012
Portfolio: Treasury
Response received: 22 October 2012

Committee view

1.2        The committee thanks the Assistant Treasurer for providing an explanation for the absence of a statement of compatibility for this bill.

1.3        The committee is satisfied that the bill does not appear to raise any human rights concerns.

1.4        The committee however reiterates its expectation for each bill and disallowable legislative instrument to be accompanied by a statement of compatibility, in accordance with the Human Rights (Parliamentary Scrutiny) Act 2011. Proposed legislation that is not considered to raise any human rights issues is not exempt from this requirement.

Purpose of the bill

1.5        This bill contains consequential amendments and transitional arrangements related to the new regulatory framework for the not-for-profit sector established by the proposed Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission Bill 2012.

1.6        The Assistant Treasurer's response can be found in Appendix 1.
