Purpose of the bill

1.2        This bill contains consequential amendments and transitional arrangements related to the establishment of the National Portrait Gallery of Australia (the Gallery) as a new statutory authority by the proposed National Portrait Gallery of Australia 2012 Bill.

1.3        The bill makes a number of minor consequential amendments to the Archives Act 1983 and contains transitional provisions involving the transfer of assets and liabilities from the Commonwealth to the Gallery.
