Inquiry into the Australian Crime Commission Amendment Act 2007

Information about the Inquiry

On 18 September 2007, the then Minister for Justice and Customs, Senator the Hon. David Johnston, gave an undertaking to the Senate to invite the Parliamentary Joint Committee on the Australian Crime Commission to inquire into the provisions of the Australian Crime Commission Amendment Bill 2007. The bill was subsequently passed in the Senate on 18 September 2007 and the House of Representatives on 20 September 2007. The major parts of the Act commenced on assent on 28 September 2007.

On 17 March 2008, the Parliamentary Joint Committee on the Australian Crime Commission initiated an inquiry into the Australian Crime Commission Amendment Act 2007 pursuant to Section 55(1)(b) of the Australian Crime Commission Act 2002.

The Committee invites submissions to the inquiry, addressing some or all of the terms of reference. The deadline for receipt of submissions is 23 April 2008, however extensions of time may be negotiated with the Secretariat prior to the deadline. The Committee prefers submissions to be sent electronically, and postal and email addresses are specified below. Submitters are requested to ensure that all personal details, including names and addresses are contained within a document separate from the submission (such as a covering letter).

All submissions become Committee documents upon receipt and may be published, including on the internet. Persons lodging submissions, however, must not make them public without the prior written approval of the Committee.
